Fox Glacier 5 Feb - Friday

The clouds were clearing when we awoke, still 22°C when we started on our 263km journey form Wanaka to Fox Glacier.
The scenery just gets better and more dramatice, as we drive along route 6, down the side of Lake Hawea.

Below are two photos by the side of Lake Hawea
Some really craggy peaks towards the coast..
We then turned lett and went over the Neck pass to the top end of Lake Wanaka, still some snow on the peaks.
Mt Aspiring is the peak in the background (just off centre, to the left) in the photo below, at 3,033m (9,950ft) Mt Aspiring is the highest peak in the "Mt Aspiring National Park" which is the area around Lake Wanaka and over the mountain range to the Tasman Sea.
Our morning break was a little further on at Makarora, where we also tanked the car up.
Then we passed Fantail Falls
Again there were piles of stones, similar to the ones we saw on the sea shore near Port Douglas, Australia. I'm not sure what they mean.
We then stopped in Haast for lunch, but did not visit the cafe advertised below
Continuing through the greenery we came to the Tasman Sea.
We passed a few surfers on the surf
We carried on through more greenery over looked by cloudy covered peaks.
We arrived in Fox Glacier late afternoon. We had an evening meal then returned to our hotel.
